Authenticity Guarantee
Every piece is hand-selected, cleaned, and described using over 20 years of vintage experience. When a listing says a piece is vintage, it is vintage. If an item isn't as described, I'll refund you in full, including shipping.
Vintage Condition
Every piece here is pre-loved and often decades old, so expect gentle signs of age and use, like light scratches, softened plating or finish, small marks, or patina. That's part of each piece's history and charm, and nothing will look fresh off a showroom floor.
Anything beyond normal wear, such as chips, cracks, repairs or damage, is always pointed out in the description and shown in the photos. If an item arrives with a flaw I didn't mention, my return policy has you covered.

Vintage Tinsel Art Reverse Painted Glass Picture | Silhouette Crinoline Lady & Children in Garden | Foil Shield | Gold Wood Frame | 1930s–40s | 7" x 10"

Tilt it toward a lamp and the whole garden sparkles. This vintage tinsel art picture is painted in reverse on the back of the glass, with crinkled metallic foil laid behind it, so every dress, tree and flower shimmers in dark pink, emerald green, gold and silver.
Three arched panels frame a garden scene in old-fashioned silhouette: a lady in a full hoop skirt holding a butterfly, a little girl in a ruffled dress on the left, and a boy with a butterfly net on the right, all in front of picket fences and glittering trees. Below them sits a scalloped shield of plain silver foil, edged in black with tiny foil flowers. It's blank, with nothing written inside, so it catches the light like a little mirror.
- Material: Reverse painted glass with metallic foil backing, in a painted wood frame with an embossed gold-tone liner and cardboard back
- Maker: Unmarked
- Era: About the 1930s to 1940s
- Style: Tinsel art (also called foil art or tinsel painting), with silhouette figures in a garden
- Size: about 7" wide x 10" tall, framed
- Color: Dark pink, gold, emerald green and silver, with black silhouettes
- Hanging: Twisted cord hanger on the back, ready to hang
- Condition: Good vintage condition with age. The glass has no cracks seen in our photos. There's a spot of paint loss in the lower left corner where the foil shows through, a few small flakes elsewhere (including two tiny specks in the silver shield), and the foil behind the shield is wrinkled, which is common with these. The frame has light wear and small dings, and the cardboard back has age spots. A couple of the small nails that hold the backing in place are missing. Please see all photos.
Hang it in a hallway, a powder room or a little gallery wall of old silhouettes. Curious how these were made? Read our guide, Reverse Painted Silhouette Pictures. Pair it with our Pair of Courting Couple Bubble Glass Silhouettes for a silhouette wall. Styling props shown in photos are not included.
