Authenticity Guarantee
Every piece is hand-selected, cleaned, and described using over 20 years of vintage experience. When a listing says a piece is vintage, it is vintage. If an item isn't as described, I'll refund you in full, including shipping.
Vintage Condition
Every piece here is pre-loved and often decades old, so expect gentle signs of age and use, like light scratches, softened plating or finish, small marks, or patina. That's part of each piece's history and charm, and nothing will look fresh off a showroom floor.
Anything beyond normal wear, such as chips, cracks, repairs or damage, is always pointed out in the description and shown in the photos. If an item arrives with a flaw I didn't mention, my return policy has you covered.

1930s Japan Pottery Pelican Pitcher Hand Painted Figural Bird Jug 8 Inch Pre-War Export
Vintage 1930s Japan Pottery Pelican Pitcher — Hand Painted Figural Bird Jug
A wonderfully characterful piece of pre-war Japanese export pottery — this figural pelican pitcher dates to the circa 1920s–1930s era, identified by the plain “Made in Japan” mark on the base, which was used during Japan’s prolific export period before World War II. Figural bird pitchers from this era have a dedicated collector following, and this pelican is a standout example of the genre.
- Mark: “Made in Japan” on base — plain mark consistent with 1920s–30s pre-war export production
- Size: 8" tall x 6" wide x 5" deep — a substantial, display-worthy piece
- Material: Bisqueware pottery with paint-over-bisque decoration
- Condition: Good vintage condition — no chips, no cracks; beak tip and handle are intact. Please note: some paint flaking/loss is present, which is entirely typical and expected for paint-over-bisque pieces of this age. Many collectors appreciate this as part of the authentic patina of pre-war Japanese pottery.
- Colors: Deep greens, sunny yellows, and earthy weathered tones
The paint-over-bisque technique — where pigment is applied directly to unglazed bisque clay — was widely used in pre-war Japanese export ware and gives these pieces their distinctive matte, folk-art quality. Paint loss over time is a known characteristic of this construction, not a flaw. We’ve photographed the flaking areas clearly so you know exactly what you’re getting.
Display him on a shelf of vintage pottery, use him as a quirky bud vase, or tuck him into a coastal or cottagecore vignette — this pelican brings personality and genuine history to any space.
