All the king's horses can stand down: this Humpty is sitting pretty. This vintage silverplate Humpty Dumpty trinket box has a round box engraved with rows of brickwork to make his wall, and a chubby little Humpty perched on the lid as the handle, complete with a bow tie, a belt and a curl on top of his head.
Lift him off and both the lid and the base are lined in bright royal blue velvet. It is just the right size for rings, earrings, a first curl or a tooth waiting for the tooth fairy, and it makes a sweet nursery shelf piece or baby gift for anyone who loves Mother Goose and nursery rhymes.
The style, a cast figure lid on a velvet-lined silverplate box, is typical of the silverplated nursery keepsake boxes made as baby and christening gifts in the 1980s and 1990s. It has been left unpolished, so it keeps its soft gray patina, and it can be polished if you prefer a brighter shine.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The silverplate has not been polished and shows patina, with light surface scratches and wear from age. The lid lifts off. The velvet lining is bright, with a little rippling. Please look closely at all photos, as they are part of the description.
