Remember the glass dome on Grandma's end table, the one you weren't allowed to touch? This vintage cloche is shaped like a ginger jar, with a softly rounded top, and it holds a little garden that never fades: dusty blue silk roses, pale blue open blooms and tiny forget-me-nots, all tucked into sprays of dried golden-brown flowers and moss. Perched on the roses is a brown and cream spotted butterfly that appears to be real.
The glass is full of tiny seed bubbles, which give it a soft, old-fashioned look, and it sits on a square wood base with a molded edge and four little rubber feet. It's lovely on a bookshelf, a nightstand or anywhere you want a touch of the Victorian parlor.
- Material: Glass dome, wood base, silk (fabric) flowers, dried botanicals and a butterfly that appears to be a real preserved specimen
- Maker: Unmarked. Torn remains of an old paper label on the bottom, unreadable.
- Era: About the 1970s to 1980s
- Style: Ginger jar shaped glass dome cloche on a footed wood base. The dome appears to be fixed to the base and isn't meant to come off.
- Size: about 10 1/2" tall; the glass is about 6" across at its widest, with a foot about 4" across where it sits in the base
- Color: Dusty blue and pale blue with golden brown, green and walnut brown wood
- Condition: Good vintage condition. No chips or cracks seen in the glass in our photos. The seed bubbles are part of the glass. A few loose bits of dried flowers and specks sit inside the dome. The wood base has light scuffs and small dings on the edges, and the bottom has torn label remnants and some worn spots in the finish. Please see all photos.
