Something fishy, in the best way. This vintage amber glass cod liver oil bottle has a fish embossed in a recessed panel, with a fish scale pattern wrapping the sides, shoulders and corners. The glass is a warm amber brown that glows orange when light comes through it.
Bottles in this design were used for McKesson's Cod Liver Oil in the 1930s and 1940s, back when a daily spoonful was a childhood ritual. The glass itself carries no brand name; the paper label that once named it is long gone. The base is stippled and has a glass maker's mark that appears to be the Owens-Illinois mark.
It makes a great bud vase, and it looks right at home on a sunny windowsill, a bathroom shelf with other apothecary bottles, or in a lake house or fishing cabin.
Condition: Good vintage condition. No chips or cracks. It shows signs of use, as you would expect from a bottle that did a real job. There is no cap and no label. Please look closely at all photos, as they are part of the description.
