Hummingbirds never sit still, so this one had to be caught in porcelain. This little Hutschenreuther wall plate shows a Horned Sungem, a South American hummingbird with a sapphire-blue crown and golden "horn" tufts, darting toward a huge, swirling coral lily. The wings are layered in brown, violet and teal, and the flower and scrolls are trimmed in raised gold that catches the light, all on a soft pale blue ground with a gold rim.
It was designed by the Danish artist Ole Winther, who created collector plates and seasonal editions for Hutschenreuther starting in 1978. This is one of his small hummingbird plates, and the back names the bird in German, Latin, English and French: Sonnenstrahlkolibri, Horned Sungem.

- Style: Mini wall plate with a pierced hanging hole in the foot ring, so it hangs on a nail with no plate hanger needed; also stands on a small easel
- Size: about 4" in diameter
- Color: Pale blue with coral, teal, violet, brown and yellow, and gold
- Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips or cracks seen in our photos, and the gold rim and accents are bright. There are a couple of tiny dark specks in the glaze near the lower left edge from the kiln, and the unglazed foot ring has light toning. The green Hutschenreuther "Prüfstelle LHS 10" inspection sticker is still on the back. Please see all photos.
