WALLACE \u0026amp; SONS\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eSILVER SOLDERED\u003c\/strong\u003e, along with a pattern number. \"Silver Soldered\" is the mark Wallace used on its sturdy silverplated wares, so this box is silverplate, not sterling. R. Wallace \u0026amp; Sons of Wallingford, Connecticut used this name from 1871 to 1956, and the fan engraving points to the late 1800s or early 1900s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt has clearly been carried and used, and it has been left unpolished, just as found. A sweet little pill box, stamp box, ring box or catch-all for a desk or dresser, and a nice find for tobacciana and antique silverplate collectors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eCondition:\u003c\/strong\u003e Used antique condition with flaws. There is a large dent in the bottom, which also shows as a raised area inside the box. The box is still functional: the hinge works and the lid opens and closes. It has not been polished and has dark tarnish, surface scratches and wear to the silverplate, with warm-toned base metal showing in places, mostly on the underside. The gold wash inside is worn.
